 Club Reports from the May Meeting

           Havering Athletics Club  - Club athletes won over 40 medals, 21 of them gold, at the recent Essex County Championships. Max Law broke the championship record in the Under javelin and his result was judged to be the best overall performance at the Championships.
  All league competitions are now underway & the highlights are a very big win for the Eastern Young Athletes League squad in their opening fixture, with their largest points total for many years, and a win for the senior Southern Athletic League team in their home fixture last weekend (Sunday 21st May).  - England Athletics Chief Executive Chris Jones, and London Regional Council Chair and Board Member Peter Crawshaw visited a training night at club recently and were full of praise for what they saw.

          Havering 90 Joggers/Parkrun  - The planning team are just putting the finishing touches to the plans for the annual Midweek 5 miles race in Raphael Park on June 6. This year funds raised will be donated to St Francis Hospice.  Club member, Paul Freedman MBE who died recently at the age of 92, was a great fund-raiser for them.
 - Last weekend club members ran as a team in the Green Belt Relay, which is a 22-leg race of about 220 miles around the periphery of London and is held over Saturday and Sunday. Usually one of the back runners, the H90J team came last this year.  - Club members will take part in the annual Spitfire Scramble in July, which takes place in Hornchurch Country Park. This is a 24 hour challenge, which can be completed in teams, duos or solo with 7 or 8 teams from the club taking part.
-Harrow Lodge Parkrun has recently seen more than 150 runners taking part which has broken the previous attendance record.  Raphael Park Parkrun frequently sees more than 200 participants with a record breaking 250 runners recently.  Harrow Lodge junior park run is also doing well with 50-60 taking part regularly with more expected now the football season has ended.

             Upminster Hockey Club  - The playing season is now over and training has finished. The club takes part in the summer league.   - The Minis Tournament weekend at Folkstone was a great success, with 50 attending plus Mums and Dads. This Thursday sees the AGM which is the final event of the Season, until training starts again in late August.

             Upminster Bowls Club   - The bowling season is now well under way with internal competitions starting and the Men’s Leagues under way.   Members continue to do well in external competitions.  A few of our members play in National Competitions and have had some success so far.  Several pairs and triples have been successful in the early rounds of the County Competitions and Jennifer Spearman- Adkins won her Essex County Singles match. 
  - The club has a Charity (First Step) Mixed Drive on Bank Holiday Monday and an Open afternoon on Saturday 3rd June when anyone can come along – with flat shoes – to have a taster session.

             Havering Tennis Club  - Recent results include a mixed match against Elm Park won 7-8 13-2 12-3 10-5 on 11th May. A men’s match against Raphael Park 2nd team was postponed due to poor weather. - A Charity Tournament is planned for Bank Holiday Monday with all donations going to HDSA. - Jordan Sergeant will be coaching as a guest on a trip to Denmark at the end of June.  - LYG tennis team are looking forward to the finals with team members playing well individually and as a team in their qualifying matches.

             Football - D Ainsworth reported that Romford and District Football League has folded due to a low number of teams. The final fixtures were played last weekend.

             Thames Chase - A few social events were held during the winter to raise funds with a busy summer expected.

             LBH Sports development  - LYG Tennis qualifiers took place in Redbridge on 20th May with Havering going through to the final on 10th June at Redbridge Leisure Centre.     - The Havering LYG trampolining team won bronze on 21st May.  - LYG angling team came 4th overall   - The Havering team is currently in 3rd place overall.-

             HDSA/Broxhill Archers  - Despite a poor turnout of members, the LYG team achieved one 3rd place and a Lady Paramount prize.  - Club members will be attending the Abbey Bowmen’s 50th anniversary shoot on 28th May.

             Havering-atte-Bower CC  - The Club started the league on 6th May with all teams playing 3 games - 1st XI won 2 lost 1 and are 4th, 2nd XI won 1 lost 2 and are 7th. 
   - On Saturday, 28th April the Club held the Andrew Dent Memorial Cup Game - the President’s XI against the Chairman’s XI.  The President’s XI scored 208 all out but were   beaten by the Chairman’s XI ’s score of 211 for 9.  This was followed by a successful quiz night with £900 raised by the end of the day.

             Havering Cormorants   - Still waiting for trials for the 3 remaining places in the LYG. Further to the issues raised at the last HSC meeting D Alleyn has spoken to all involved in arranging the trials with the whole process under review for next year.  Unfortunately, there is insufficient time this year to implement changes for the selection of the whole squad but he will speak to the currently selection organiser to clarify the position on the outstanding places for this year. The Chairman welcomed the selection process review which was fully supported by HSC.   - D Alleyn agreed to look into the status of the Planning application for the proposed changes at Harrow Lodge.

             SYM Sailing Club   - The club provided sailing at the Stubbers Adventure Centre open day for their customers.  - SYM held its own open day recently with many visitors enjoying the fine weather of the day. - The club is running RYA Levels 1&2 courses over 3 Sundays in June. level 1&2 over 3 Sundays in June.
