Minuted Club News from July Meeting

 Information on forthcoming events and results of past events from the July Sports Council meeting
Athletics - Havering Mayesbrook AC – Lauren Deadman won her first national senior track medal winning the 5,000m bronze at Gateshead.  Neil Collins was 5th in the 800m INAS-FID European Championships held in Croatia. Jimi Teli broke the club’s U17 triple jump record when he won the inter boys gold medal at the English Schools Championships at Birmingham.
Sports Development:  Havering finished in 3rd place in the London Youth Games with only 19 points separating the 3 top boroughs.  Students from every secondary school in Havering were represented in the Havering team.  A 5k fun run will take place on 26th September in Raphael Park followed by a festival in Romford Market Place.  A wide range of summer activities are planned for children and young people including Playfest for 4-11 year olds and sports coaching via the Summer Uni scheme.
Havering ’90 joggers:  180 runners took part in the 5 mile race on 11th July and funds raised at the event will be sent to St Francis Hospice.  An application for a grant of £500 from the East London Community Trust has been successful and will be used to train another 5 leaders.  There are a few places on the next Learn 2 Run course – contact Dave Keeley if interested.  An aquathon will take place on 15th August at Coopers Coborn School which will consist of a 300m swim followed by a 5k run.
Gymnastics – Jaybee Gymnastics – 4 gymnasts took part in the mini games on the first day of the London Youth Games and thoroughly enjoyed their day.
Havering Sports Acro Gym Club – the first ever Essex Acro Championships took place on 27th June and was a great success.  Over 90 gymnasts took part from 3 local clubs HSAGC gymnasts taking 16 titles. 
Sailing – Stubbers Young Mariners Sailing Club- a BBQ was held on 27th June which was well attended.  Steve Sedwell and Barry Milton White presented the LYG certificates to the juniors.
Shooting – Romford Rifle and Pistol Club – the Mayor of Havering and her consort visited the club on 3rd July and met the committee and members of the public attending the guest day.  She also tried her hand at shooting and had some successful shots at the target.  James Huckle, current UK junior champion, will be competing with the UK team at the world championships in Munich on 28th July.
Swimming – Hornchurch Swimming Club – 20 members of the club took part in the annual Clacton Pier swim on 18th July with 65 entrants in total.  Hornchurch won the top club with 1 first place (Junior Girls), 3 second places (Junior and Senior Girls and Senior Boys, and 1 third place (Junior Boys).
Kung Fu – Karl Lancaster and his 13 year old son Luke, along with 3 other members of the GB team, all from Havering, won medals at the 10th Grand World WU Shu Festival in Shanghai.
Archery – Broxhill Archers – the Junior Team achieved 2nd place at the LYG.
HDSA – a Millennium archery shoot is scheduled for 7th August.
Table Tennis – Cranham Community Table Tennis Club – the 1st team finished in the top division.
Bowls – Rainham Bowling Club – ladies and gentlemen’s inter-club competition will take place on 22nd August to raise money for charity.  Entrants are charged £1 if in fancy dress, £2 if not.
